What is FAFSA?

Each year, the federal government provides more than $150 billion in financial aid (grants, work-study, & loans) to students for post-secondary education. Filling out the FAFSA is the first step in funding your post-secondary education! State governments and many colleges and career schools use your FAFSA information to award you more financial aid from their institution. This could mean even more money for you, so fill out your FAFSA now!

Federal Student Aid offers three types of financial aid.

  1. Grants: Financial aid that generally doesn’t have to be repaid.

  2. Loans: Borrowed money for college or career school; your loans must be repaid with interest.

  3. Work-Study: A federal work program through which undergraduates and graduate students at participating schools earn money to help pay for school.
